Long time no blog - an update of sorts

April 24th, 2008

Hello,

The Wine Bank in University Place has once again asked me to hold an Art Exhibit of my works in conjunction with one of their wine tastings.
This has tentatively been set for 12 July 2008. The doors will open around 9 am and will close around 6 pm. The wine
tasting usually doesn’t start until the afternoon. I’ll be in the process of deciding which images to present probably right up to the last minute.
Let me know if you have any favorites you would like included. There will be more details to come.

Also, I’ll be working on a calendar for Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Tacoma. The working title is “The Gardens of Immanuel”.
The title should give you a pretty good idea of the subject matter. All of the photos will be shot in the gardens of the people of Immanuel Presbyterian Church.
This calendar will be in addition to the upcoming 2008 “Washington Waters” Calendar and the upcoming 2008 “A Bees View Calendar”.

I have 3 images currently on display in the Kimball gallery in Gig Harbor. I will be replacing them with three new images each month.

I’m also gearing up for the Annual Tacoma Mountaineers Photo Exhibit at the Tahoma Gallery here in Tacoma, as well as for the Puyallup Fair in September.

I’ve been loading the freshest images onto
http://www.flickr.com/photos/jimoliverphotography/ before moving them over to the official website at
http://joliverphoto.com/ .

I have an account also on YouTube where I’m posting the Blues Vespers videos as well as a few others.

2 week followup to “Christmas Cards, More Picture Uploads, and Broken Finger Update”

December 6th, 2007

I’ve handed out just about all the Christmas Cards that I can personally deliver… If I’ve forgotten someone please please please let me know. I’ll be mailing out the remaining cards on our lists next Wednesday.

More picture uploads… my apologies for the delay in getting them to you. I have been promised that they will be visible by the afternoon of Friday December 7th.

The finger is doing better, but not back to 100%. I started physical therapy treatments last Tuesday. Not to worry… it’s not my shutter finger.
Stay tuned for the further adventures of Nick Danger Third Eye oooppppssss sorry… wrong decade

Christmas Cards, More Picture Uploads, Post Thanksgiving Leftovers, and a Broken Finger Update

November 24th, 2007

Welllllll let’s see now… Hmmmm…. we picked the picture for this years Christmas Cards, did the test prints with the different card layouts & designs and placed the order with the printer yesterday afternoon. We should have them in hand no later than next Monday the 3rd of December. I’m hoping to get the cards either handed out or mailed out to everyone we have an address for by the end of next week.

Since I’ve had all this time of, I figured no time like the present to get more pictures web sized and uploaded. Over the past 3 days I’ve uploaded an additional 277 pictures to Brent at Focus Design Studios. Hopefully he’ll get them incorporated toot sweet! I believe that that now makes a total of 384 pictures on the site. I’m also adding 2 new categories to the galleries. One titled “Creeks & Rivers” and another one titled “Lakes & Ponds”. I’ve added a bunch of stuff to the “Fun Stuff” category including 3 pictures that I experiemented with using the “watercolor” filter in Photoshop. Let’s see… Hmmmm water & color… I wonder if there is a theme here. They aren’t too radical or anything but they are a departure from my normal purist approach to photography.

Broken finger update… It’s slowly doing better. I can bend it, under it’s own power, almost till it touches my palm. Followup appointment is Monday and I plan on being back to work next Wednesday. I’m slowly losing my mind sitting around here.

It’s now time to go graze the leftovers… Karla did an amazing job cooking the meal! Oh, and she made a chocolate/bourbon/pecan pie that is wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wellll… that’s all for now

The calendars have arrived!

November 10th, 2007

and they are looking GOOD! Also, please take a look at the calendar page. If you click on an image of a calendar, it will take you to where you can look at the images in that calendar at your own pace. As always, I keep looking for feedback and ways to improve the experience.

I received this e-mail from Kathy five minutes after placing the order for the calendars.

November 3rd, 2007

I was feeling some trepidations/concerns/worries (cold sweats) about placing the calendar orders. Five minutes after placing the calendar orders I received this e-mail. I had to share it!

” Jim & K4, So sorry we missed your big event, but very grateful for the awesome website to see the fruit of your labor. To say the least, you are so gifted to “see” the beauty of God’s creation. I wish I had more walls to display your work! I am interested in getting several calendars this year for friends, so please let me know when I can start ordering. It’s too difficult to say which photo is my favorite, but the three waterfalls shot (#2 & #29) remind me of the Trinity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The shallow stream below seems to come alive with the abundant, living water from above it. The waterfalls seem to bring with them, the pure light from beyond the tangle of trees and brush - so similar to what happens in our life when our Lord is present. Psalm 1:3, could be one of several verses inscribed on the bottom of that photo! Thanks for your inspiration that we can all be blessed by. Love, Kathy”

Awesome… I’m speechless.

Thank You Kathy!

The Calendars Have Been Proofed, Ordered, and Shipped!

November 3rd, 2007

Last Tuesday and Wednesday the calendar proofs came back from the printer and they looked pretty darn good to us. First thing Thursday morning I ordered 75 of both the “2008 Washington Waters Calendar” and of the “2008 A Bee’s View Calendar”. Late Friday afternoon I received an email from the printer stating that the calendars had shipped. Things are moving right along. They should be here no later than Friday, November 9th .

Before the calendars arrive I am hoping to have a separate calendar link at the top of the home page. Clicking on the link will take you to a page with a picture of each calendar cover. Clicking on a calendar cover will take you to a slide show of that calendar. We are also working out the details of having an order form. The order form would be automatically attached to an e-mail to us. Sorry, but the site doesn’t yet have secure ordering capability.

Please keep checking back!

2nd Annual “Help Us Pick the Pictures for the 2008 Calendars” Party

October 21st, 2007

The party was on October 20th, and as Karla said “It was the best party I’ve ever thrown!” The same goes for me as well. Our thanks go out to all who were able to make it, and to those who weren’t able to come, but who sent their Good Wishes.

Adriene…. you won the drawing! We’ll give you a call tomorrow. You need to come back over so you can pick which of the framed pictures in the calendar selections you want.

For those of you who weren’t able to make it and are wondering what I’m talking about, here goes. Last year at the request of friends we produced a calendar of waterfalls, creeks, ponds and sunsets over the Puget Sound. To make sure that calendar was going to be a good one we asked people over to help us choose the pictures. To do this we framed 30 + pictures and hung them on the wall. It worked so well, we decided to do it again. This year we framed 27 different images and hung them on the wall for people to choose 13 for the 2008 Washington Waters calendar. We then framed and hung 33 flower images on the wall in Karla’s sewing room. Again, we had people choose 13 for the flower calendar. Yes… we are going to be doing a flower calendar also. I’ve got the results tabulated from the ballots but I haven’t gotten any further with the data yet. I hope to start and finish the layout and formatting of one calendar tomorrow night. Tuesday I hope to do the 2nd calendar. I hope to have the 1st test print of the calendars back from the printers by the 1st week in November. Price hasn’t been finalized yet but it looks like it will be in the neighborhood of $20 each.

I’ll keep you posted,

Jim

Hello! The site has been up about 2 weeks now…

September 28th, 2007

I’d like to thank everyone for their feedback!!!! The feedback has been very positive. I’d like to say thank you to the folks at Focus Design Studios who have worked with me on the site design.

The site is still under construction as there are a few features I want to be able to provide you. The main feature still under construction is to be able to place 2 or 3 images side by side so that you can see how they would look in a grouping.

I intend to have another 200+ images uploaded to the site in the next couple of weeks as well as also having the names of each image display.

Yes, prints are available for purchase. E-mail me with which image you are interested in and the size you would like.

  • 8 x 10 inch prints are $20
  • 11 x 14 inch prints are $30
  • Larger prints are available, and some images are square so the prices will vary

Thanks!
